The Prayer

The Prayer that Jesus commands, "THIS... IS HOW YOU SHOULD PRAY" Mt 6:9-13 (NI) is an awesome prayer and. covers a lot subjects we need to cover in prayer. It is even more awesome as we remember Jesus says that God "told me what to say" Jn 12:49 (IC). This prayer is what God wants us to pray to Him.

Our Father in heaven, May Your holy name be honored; May Your kingdom come, May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Please give us today our daily bread. Please forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us. Please don't bring us into temptation and please rescue us from evil, for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever, amen. .

As we pray The Prayer, which takes less than a minute, at times it can be a blessing to expand the prayer with additional related prayers.

:9 "…Our Father in heaven, May Your holy name be honored;"

May everyone honor Your Holy name and treat it with respect. May everyone be convicted that "misuses" Your name (Exodus 20:7 NIV). And learn to respect and "fear" You (Mt 10:28 NI). Help us to live our lives in such a way that it reflects favorably on Your Holy name, and brings honor toYour name, especially me.

:10 "May Your kingdom come…on earth as it is in heaven."

May Your kingdom be present "within" us now (Lk 17:20-21 NI). May Your final Kingdom "come" (Rev 12:10 NI) soon and be established every where on earth as the accuser is eliminated forever and may we all be "ready" (Mt 24:44) to live forever with You in Your Kingdom, especially me.

:10 "…May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

May your will be done every where on earth just as it is in heaven, especially in my life and the lives of everyone I care about. (this can be a good time to name each person) Remember that being in God's "will" is essential to being in God's kingdom (Mt 7:21).

:11 "Please give us this day our daily bread."

Please give us today our daily bread, both physical and spiritual bread. As we seek first Your "kingdom", thank You for providing all our needs (Mt 6:33). Guide us regarding everything You want us to do to receive the blessings you want to give us (Lk 6:38, Mal 3:10, etc.). Jesus said as recorded in John 4:34 (NKJ), "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work." For some men and women of God, this may be a good time ask God for help in doing what He wants.

:12 "Please forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us."

Help us to forgive everyone who has done anything against us (a good time to mention names). Help us to remember everyone we need to forgive. Thank You for forgiving all our sins (a good time to mention our sins). Help us to remember that we have forgiven others and that You have forgiven us, if the "accuser" brings up either subject (Rev 12:10). Most people need forgiveness daily.

:13 "Please don't bring us into temptation,"

We pray that You will not bring us into any temptation and help us to resist any desire for temptation. Help us to not even see or know about the opportunity for temptation. Help us to not entertain even any thought or fantasy of anything tempting. For many this may be a daily concern.

:13 "and please rescue us from evil,"

Please rescue us from evil. Evil includes the evil one or the devil and all evil thoughs and desires we have, etc. Help us to remember that we can use the powerful "name" of Jesus, when we feel under attack (Mk 16:17).

:13 "Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever, Amen."

We praise You God for Yours is the kingdom and the power and glory forever and ever, amen. Thank You for sending Your son Jesus to teach us how to pray to You. You are our only source for everything. Help us to "deny" ( Lk 9:23) every other source including our self and totally rely on You, so that we can follow Jesus' example and be able to say that everything we "say" (Jh 12:49) and everything we "do" (Jh 14:31) comes from You.

For stronger results, pray in God's spirit language with your mouth while you pray with your understanding with your mind.
