MINISTRY NOTES

Week of May 9, 2010

Hi Follower of Jesus,

Recently a man failed at an attempt to set off a car bomb in Times Square. Some news media talk about when he became radicalized in his Mohammadanist religion. Our battle is not with people or nationalities, it is a spiritual battle and you can help by taking authority in the name of Jesus over those who wish to do us harm just because as Christians or Jews we follow the one true God.

Reminder:

Middle of February 2009, God told me we will have an economic meltdown in our country. I was not told how soon in term of months or years. When someone tells you God told him something, be careful. Check it out with the Bible and with God. I am putting this part in italics so you will know the part that God told me. The way God described the meltdown was with a generic loaf of sandwich bread that in 1985 cost $.34, in 2009 it cost $1.24 and soon will cost $5 and then $10. Our money will be worth less. People will have money from jobs or savings or government support but will not be able to afford basics. You will have needs.

Are you prepared? If you are prepared for an economic downturn and it doesn't happen, probably your preparations will still benefit you. Seek God's guidance how you and your family could be better prepared for economic tough times, such as reducing debt or living more economically, etc.. And remember that Jesus said, "store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:20-21)

I share the news below to illustrate that a meltdown can happen many ways.

The following was in Israel news on May 3 Euro Could Collapse, Says Former Bank of Israel Head by Gil Ronen The former Governor of the Bank of Israel, Prof. Yaakov Frenkel, has predicted a possible collapse of the Euro within the next three years. Frenkel was quoted by the Bulgarian news agency BTA as saying that if European Union leaders fail to deal successfully with the Greek financial crisis, the European currency would not survive. In contrast to Greece, Frenkel said, Israel's economy and its fiscal policies are stable. Israel, he predicted, will see the end of the crisis within two years' time.

Marriage Workshop Moment

"Remember, all marriages can be better, if you use what you learned."

Expectations, we all have them. If they happen, we feel great. If they do not happen, we are very disappointed. Our expectations can affect every part of our marriage. Where do they come from? We can develop expectations from our friends, the media, T V, movies, our relatives, etc. We may want to consider the source of our expectation, if our expectations about marriage come from people who consider themselves experts because they have been married many times, we may want to reconsider those expectations. Yes, some expectations that seem stupid to one couple may be considered great in another marriage. Communicating your expectations with your spouse can help. (a good time to use the Speaker Listener Technique) Anticipating your communication can help. If you have an expectation that might be considered unreasonable, you may anticipate that the expectation will not be well received and refrain from suggesting it and possibility even alter your expectation. Remember that you fell in love with your spouse the way they are and not to try to change them to fit some preconceived expectation. I've known of women dying their hair because their husband always wanted a wife with a different hair color.

The Better Half "When your partner won't support your efforts to make your marriage better" Without your spouse's support to improve your marriage, you can still pray daily for God's will to be done in each of your lives and your marriage ("all things are possible with God", Mark 10:27 NIV). Without your spouses help you may still inquire about what your spouse wants or expects and communicate your expectations. People usually like to talk about what they want. Remember that you fell in love with your spouse the way they are and not for some way you hoped they could be.

A Psalm for reflection "bless Yahweh...who…heals all your diseases" Psalm 103:2-3 (NJB)

Understanding the Teaching: What I share in the teaching is what I believe God wants me to share. All the direct quotes from God are highlighted in royal purple. Of course the words of Jesus are in red. Rather than follow some made up doctrine, remember that Jesus said that every thing He said (Jn 12:49) and everything He did (Jn 14:31) comes from God. All teachings and all opinions should be supported by what we learn from God or Jesus (see the scripture referred to in the footnote).

A Jesus Teaching:

Healing Others

If you were asked, would you say you believe in God and Jesus? Saying yes would mean you are a believer. Do you pray for people and God heals them? Jesus says, "Believers will be given the power to perform miracles … they will place their hands on sick people, and these will get well"1. If you believe Jesus, then do you lay hands in prayer on people? If you pray for people by laying hands on them, do you expect them to get well. It is really quite simple. As believers, Jesus expects us to place our hands on people in prayer and they will be healed!

We encourage everyone who follows Jesus to follow His example. When Jesus healed people, He used many methods including commands, gave instructions, complimented their faith, touched them, etc., Jesus' most common method of healing involved touching. Mark shares that when Jesus went to His hometown He couldn't do any miracles because of their lack of faith or their negative faith, except lay hands on a few people and heal them8. If the Son of God used touching for healing when faith was weak, how much more should we use touching. Unless God specifically tells you to do something different, touching or laying on of hands is the method that supercedes all other methods because it is what Jesus told us to do. Jesus instructions take priority over His examples. Yes, one time Jesus healed someone by saying, "your sins are forgiven"2 and if God tells you to tell someone their sins are forgiven for their healing, praise God, realizing that their immediate healing will be expected as confirmation.

Who do you lay hands on for healing? Apparently, Jesus healed everyone who asked for it. Unfortunately, most people will not ask for prayer. Recently, there was a person in my office who was a friend of some people who came to see me. The woman started telling me about a close relative who had some major medical problems. In the conversation she waved her hand toward an area where it mentions our healing ministry and our food ministry. I though she was going to ask for healing prayer for her relative but her desire was just to get some food for her relative, which she received. Some people with disabilities will not want prayer because if they were healed they might lose the economic benefits of their disabilities. There appears to be no record of Jesus healing someone without them asking for it, except where Satan was involved. Jesus didn't always heal every person near by who needed healing and He did ask at times if people wanted healing. Once there was a man, who had been an invalid for 38 years and was lying in an area with others needing healing. Apparently he didn't know who Jesus was but Jesus asked him, "Do you want to be made well?" After a positive response, Jesus healed him and later told him to "Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you"3. The man's faith could not have anything to do with his healing, as he didn't know it was Jesus. The sinning involved was not revealed but it is clear that sin can affect illness. We are not told why Jesus only healed him and not any of the others near by who needed healing but it can help to remember that Jesus said, "I do exactly what the Father told Me to do"4. Any faith that was involved had to be Jesus' faith. When healing or deliverance didn't happen, the only criticism Jesus had was of the person trying to minister. When asked why they couldn't Jesus replied, "It was because you do not have enough faith"5. As a believer, if you have a desire to help people, it is good to pray daily that your faith will be stronger. When people don't get healed immediately, sometimes there will be criticism of the person needing healing lack of faith but as a Jesus Follower we know that the important faith is the faith of the person doing the praying.

We speak of Jesus healing people and often when people pray for a person and they get healed, we refer to the person doing the praying as healing them. In the same way we may speak of a Doctor healing his patient. In truth, it is God who heals. When Jesus was involved in people's healing, everyone seemed to realize that the healing came from God and praised God for the healing. An example, Jesus spoke healing for a blind man and "Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God"6. It is certainly better if we refer to God healing people no matter who is God's instrument of healing. Always remember that Jesus teaches us that, "anyone believing in Me shall do the same miracles I have done"7.

Let's pray:

"God thank you for having Jesus teach us that we can lay hands on people and You will heal them. Help us all to have stronger faith and be always ready to be Your instrument of healing. Thank You for guiding us in what You want us to do, in Jesus name, amen."
